42. Ida Jane Brown. Daughter of George "Sterling" Brown & Mary Anne Milligan. Born 3 Jun 1909 in York Mills. Died 24 Nov 2002 in DECH, Fredericton. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation School Teacher.

    SWAN, IDA JEAN

     Ida J. Swan of Harvey Station passed away November 24, 2002 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born at York Mills on June 3, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Sterling George and Mary Ann (Milligan) Brown. Ida was a retired teacher and a member of the N.B.S.R.T. She was a Past Matron of Unity Chapter #35, O.E.S.; affiliated with St. Andrew's United Church of Canada and a life member of the United Church Women. For a number of years, Ida was active in the Girl Guide movement.

 

    She is survived by a daughter, Joan McLeod, Weston, Ontario; two sons, Brian Swan (Sheila), Wakefield, Quebec and Lawrence Swan (Jeannie), Harvey Station; a step-son, Harold (Tommy) Swan (Aldana), Harvey Station; a brother, George Brown, Harvey Station; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

    Ida was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bert) John Swan, a step-son, Floyd Swan, a sister, Vernice Maxwell and two brothers, Stanley and Woodrow Brown and a special nephew, George Maxwell.

 

    Resting at the St. James Room of St. Andrew's United Church of Canada, 2350 Route 3, Harvey Station with visitation Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the church on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Robert McDowell and Rev. Dr. William Randall officiating. Interment in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

 

    A tribute service by members of Unity Chapter #35, O.E.S. will be held Tuesday, evening at 6;45 p.m. at the St. James Room.

 

    For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Ida, the family has suggested St. Andrews United Church building fund, Harvey Settlement Cemetery or the Canadian Cancer Society.

    She married John Robert Henry "Bert" Swan, son of John "Russell" Rutherford Swan & Ella Jessie Thompson, 28 Aug 1935 in Knox Presbyterian Church Records, Harvey. Born 7 Apr 1905 in McAdam, NB. Died 19 Sep 1991 in DECH, Fredericton. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Mechanic, Electrician, Plumber.

    Robert (Bert) Swan

    Funeral service for Robert (Bert) Swan was held at Swan's Funeral Home, Harvey Station, with Rev. K. Ruth Stewart officiating, assisted by Rev. David Dewar.

 

    Eulogy was given by his son Brian, Music by Rev. William Randall and Mrs Emma Randall.   Pallbearers were Elwood Brown, Vernon Finnie, Fred Little, Lloyd Embleton, George Fletcher, and Austin Pollack.

 

    Born in McAdam in 1905, he was the son of the late Russell and Ella (Thompson) Swan.   He lived most of his life in Harvey Station where he was employed as a mechanic.   During World War II he was employed at Fairchild's Aircraft, Longueuil, Que., as an airplane mechanic.   Before retirement he was self-employed in electrical and plumbing work.

 

    He is survived by his wife Ida (Brown), one daughter Joan and her husband Bill McLeod of Toronto, three sons Brian and his wife Sally of Wakefield, Que., Harold and his wife Aldana and Lawrence of Harvey Station, one brother Herbert, also of Harvey Station, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.

 

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Mildred Pollack, son Floyd, two brothers Gordon and Lawrence.

 

    Interment took place in Harvey Community Cemetery.

 

    They had the following children:
