Descendents of David Cowe (ca 1765 - unknown)
and Helen Sharp (1765 - unknown)

Fourth Generation
**************************************************

34. Robert Cowe. Son of David Cowe & Eleanor Turnbull. Born 1858.

Robert was a farm worker in his early days but left at age 18 to work on the LNE railway at Newcastle. He worked always on the permanent way and retired after 47 year service as Permanent Way Inspector at Tyne Dock. He was a very quiet, gentle man.

They had five children: Eliza Jane, David William, Annie Melvill, Robert Henry and Norman.
He married Margaret Waugh.

Margaret Waugh was the daughter of a quarryman in the area south of Berwick, spending part of his time at Holy Island. This had a significance later when Margaret and Robert's son, David William, had to work on Holy Island. With Island connection, David was accepted there when strangers were not. Holy Island has a fascinating social history as well as its better known history. Her family were always quarrymen or farm workers.

They had the following children:
72 i. Eliza Jane Cowe
73 ii. David William Cowe
74 iii. Annie Melvill Cowe
75 iv. Robert Henry Cowe
76 v. Norman Cowe
