30. Janet Little. Daughter of John Little & Janet Heughan (link to Heughan family pages). Born 1829 in Scotland. Died 19 Oct 1888 in Harvey, NB. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

Jocelean Swan Hall found this picture and several others on this web site in an old album kept by her grandmother Eleanor Grieve Wilson. This picture of Janet Little had the notation in 'Grammy's' handwriting: "Janet Little of Canada."

    Copied from New Brunswick Reporter, 16 May 1851:  At the Manse of St. Paul's in this city on the 12th inst. by the Rev. J. M. Brooke, Mr Thomas Wilson of Harvey Settlement, to Janet,, daughter of Mr John Little of New Maryland.

 

    From York Co NB Marriaage Register C 1850-1866 (PANB):  Witnesses to marriage were  John Little and Isabel Haining.

    Janet  died at age 59 years of consumption.

   She married Thomas Wilson (link to Wilson family pages), son of Robert Wilson (link to Wilson family pages) & Mary Brown (link to Wilson family pages), 12 May 1851 in St. Pauls Church, Fredericton By Rev. Dr. John M. Brooke . Born 13 Jan 1821 in Ayton Law, Scotland. Died 28 Dec 1892 in Harvey, York Co., NB. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Religion Presbyterian.

 

    Thomas came to Harvey with his parents and siblings in 1837, with the first settlers of Harvey. 

    Thomas and Janet were farmers, they lived on Lot 10, second tier, which contained 90 acres and was a land grant in 1853.  They also got land grants of 50 acres south of Lot 10, third tier in 1860, and 50 acres south east of Lot 11, in 1865.

    The 1861 Census showed that they had 35 acres of improved land, 105 acres of unimproved land, cash value of farm was 100 pounds, and cash value of implements and machinery was two pounds.  They had two milch cows, two working oxen, ten sheep and one swine, slaughtered 170 lbs. of pork; produced 80 lbs. of butter; 18 lbs. of wool, 8 tons of hay, 80 bu. of oats, and 25 bu. buckwheat.

    Thomas, with his father and brothers, built the first sawmill in the area, on Dead Brook above Wilsons Meadow.  It was a up-and-down saw run by a water wheel.

    Janet and Thomas had two children.  All are buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.
