    Mrs J. T. Craig Died

Harvey Station Lost One of Its Most Prominent Women--Suffered Fall

Harvey Station, April 6 -- Many friends learned with deep regret of the passing of Mrs John T. Craig, formerly Miss Janet McGowan of Tweedside, which occurred at her home Friday morning, March 29th.

On March 11, Mrs Craig observed her 75th birthday.  Two days later while attending a meeting of the W.M.S. at the home of Mr and Mrs Wallace Coburn, she slipped and fell on the stairway.  Although no bones were broken, she received injuries from which she did not recover.  In her death a life of Christian beauty and usefulness has come to a close.  She was a faithful member of St. Andrews United Church and a regular attendant at its services.  Many years ago she was made a life member of the Women's Missionary Society.  In her home she was a devoted wife and mother, noted throughout the community for her kind hospitality.

Mrs Craig is survived by her husband, one daughter, Miss Ella Craig, and two sons, T. Kay Craig and William J. Craig all of Harvey, one brother, William McGowan of Tweedside, five grandsons, Avens, Murray, Raymond and Neil Craig and Edwin Manzer, two granddaughters, Olive and Phyllis Manzer of Brownville Junction, Me.  Three other daughters predeceased her, Miss Olive Craig, (Lila) Mrs Daniel C. Manzer and Janet McGowan Craig, the latter dying in infancy.

She married John Thompson Craig (link to Thompson family pages), son of Thomas Frank Craig (link to Thompson family pages) & Isabel Thompson (link to Thompson family pages), 25 Nov 1896 in Harvey. Born 24 Jul 1869 in Harvey. Christen 26 Sep 1869 in Harvey Presbyterian Church. Died 1 Mar 1962 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer.

John died 1 Mar 1962, age 92 yr 7 mo 5 days, at home.

Obituary from the Daily Gleaner, March 1962:

    Senior Citizen Dies At Harvey

Harvey Station (Special) -- Harvey Station lost one of its senior citizens when John Thompson Craig passed away at his home.  Mr Craig, who was 92, had lived his entire life in this community.

Funeral services were held from St. Andrew's United Church with Rev. W. L. Randall officiating, assisted by Rev. S. R. Jackson.  A wide circle of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects.
