Thomas Piercy and his wife Mary Henderson came to Harvey in 1837 with the first settlers of Harvey. With their two sons, three daughters and one daughter-in-law, they sailed from Berwick-upon-Tweed on 28 May 1837 on board the brig "Cornelius of Sunderland" which carried coals, glass, etc., and 137 passengers. They arrived at the port of Saint John, N.B. on Wednesday, 12 July, and proceeded to Fredericton in the steamer, "Water Witch" (a night boat between Saint John and Fredericton, leaving Saint John every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening, and Fredericton every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings).

Thomas received a Lard Grant, Lot # 18 West, 100 acres. (It is on the corner of Route 3 and the Tweedside Road, but which originally was the road to connect with Brockway through to St. Andrews--called the Great Road.

Thomas and his elder son, Matt, who was 23 years old, arrived in Harvey before the rest of the family and had a comfortable house built, with a fire place. Mary and their daughters and younger son walked from Fredericton to Harvey, a distance of approximately 25 miles, after their home had been built.

Thomas and Mary died in Harvey and are buried in the Harvey Settlement Cemetery.
From St. John Globe, 30 Oct 1865: "Died 12th inst., Thomas Piercy, Elder in the Church."
He married Mary Henderson, daughter of Matthew Henderson & Margaret, 19 Apr 1812 in Ford, Eng. Born Approx 1786 in Wooler, Eng. Christen 3 Jan 1787 in Wooler, United Associate Tower Hill--N.C. Died 3 Sep 1868 in Harvey, N.B. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Religion Presbyterian.

From the IGI , Northumberland, England: Henderson, Mary, daughter of Matthew Henderson and Margaret, female, christened 3 Jan 1787, Wooler, United Associate Tower Hill, N.C. (This could possibly be the Mary who married Thomas Piercy.)

Also from IGI: Piercy, Thomas and Mary Henderson, married 19 Apr 1812, Ford, Parish Records & Dissenters.

They had the following children:
5 i. Matthew Piercy
6 ii. Elizabeth Piercy
7 iii. Mary Piercy

9 v. Walter Piercy

3. George Piercy. Son of Thomas Piercy & Elizabeth. Born 1785 in Eng. Christen 19 Apr 1785 in Spittal, United Presbyterian, Eng. Died 11 Nov 1873 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer. Religion Presbyterian.

George and Ann Piercy and family appears in the 1841 census at Walkerwalls, Earle township, in Doddington parish, Wooler district, Northumberland, England. Listed were the following children: Thomas 20, Robert 18, Ann 16, Jane 12 and Mary 8.

According to the 1851 Census, George Piercy and his wife Ann Winter and their children came to New Brunswick in the years 1843 to 1845, as follows: George and his wife Ann in 1844; Thomas as a single man, in 1845; their son Robert in 1843; daughter Ann and her husband Robert Burrell in 1845; daughter Jane in 1844, and daughter Mary in 1845. It is very difficult to verify dates of their arrival--it is possible that they all came at the same time! It seems likely that the unmarried daughters Jane and Mary would come at the same time as their parents.
George's brother Thomas and his wife and children came to New Brunswick in 1837 and were among the first settlers of Harvey Settlement.

He married Ann Winter, 11 Jun 1815 in Ford, Parish Records And Dissenters. Born Approx 1792 in England. Died 11 Jun 1867 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.
