  Transcription of Letter #4, the envelope addressed to Mr A Wilson Harveys Settlement by Fredericton New Brunswick North America, dated 29 June 1871, from his uncle James Brown, Morpeth.   (Spelling as written, if possible.)

              Nr Morpeth

              June 29 th 1871

 

My Dear Nephew & Neace,

 

  I hope this will find you all in good helth as this leaves us all thank God in good health now.   I have been long unwell or I would have wrote you but I maney a time think of you all how you are giten on for we have had a very sever winter the potatoes are not looking well from the north winds has been so sever & now rane ar (?) 15 th Jun from the forst of May & I feare thay have got rot thay are small.   The Turnips are not looking well the flys took them before the rane came I have very strong land for turnips.   It cost so much for manure & takes so much labour to brick the clay down.

 

  I rec'd your liknes all safe & I thank you for them all I hope to send you the children when we have them taken and your aunt and your uncle Jonathan If I could gite him in the mind.   I have never hard from your Uncle Thomas yeat but I had a letter from your Sister Elizabeth Embelton and Thay had hard from him in March.   I rec'd the two liknes all safe and truste to be able to write them sone let me know if you rec'd papers.   I rec'd one paper from you a month a goe & you will have got some from me to show you how the markets are thay are back this week or two but from the crops looken so bad I think wheat will still keep up.   We have a lot yeat for sale my crops are improved since the rain the wheat are thin the Hay are got up but thin on the grond.   If rane had not come when it did the crops would been worse then last year.   I sold Hay this spring at ?? a tun I am still given the Horse Hay & the Bulls I have three & 7 cows & 15 young beast & 4 calf.   I have been offered 25 (lb.) for a young Bull what I gave ll (lb.) after one year keep & 12 (lb.) for the cows he had.

  Let me know if W. Smith lived with Mr Hedley before I ware marred or when & if he knowed Isaac Turnbull he ware there man many years & if he ware in a ware house in Newcastle.

 

  I am happy to here from aney of you & if aney will come over & see us all I shall be happy to receive them.   Aske your Sister Jane to write me & your brothers, & if there are aney thing I can send to aney of you .   I trust here from you sone I am gone to meet a Assessment Committee this morning so no more at present from your affect-- Uncle & Aunt Frances & J. Brown.

 

  I send you a London paper & a Morpeth one this week & one for R.W.
