15. Isabella Rutherford . Daughter of John Rutherford & Elizabeth "Bessie" Wightman. Born 8 Nov 1867 in Harvey Station, NB. Died 8 Feb 1948.

 

    Not married.   Isabella was a telegraph operator.


16. John M. Rutherford . Son of John Rutherford & Elizabeth "Bessie" Wightman. Born 5 Feb 1870 in Tweedside, NB. Died 7 Jul 1939 in Tweedside. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer. Religion Presbyterian.

 

    They were farmers in Tweedside, and had five children.   For details on this family see "The Little Family of Harvey Settlement, 1786-1992" compiled by Janet Swan Watson, Brenda Saunders Swan, Jocelean Swan Hall--Page 114.

    Died at Tweedside.

    John Rutherford, aged 69, was well known in Harvey District.

    The death occurred Friday, July 7, of John Rutherford, life long resident of Tweedside at the age of 69 years.

 

   Although in failing health for some time, his death came suddenly at the last.   He leaves to mourn three sons, David, of McAdam, Gilbert, of Saint John, Lewis, at home; two daughters, Mrs Edwin Messer, of Coburn, and Mildred, at home; one brother, Charles, of Westfield; and one sister, Isabel, of Boston; also five grandchildren.   His wife predeceased him six years ago.

 

   The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the home.   The service was conducted by Rev. A. MacLean, pastor of the Knox Presbyterian Church of which the deceased was a life long member.

 

   There was a large attendance and many beautiful floral tributes from relatives and friends showing the high esteem in which he was held.

 

   Hymns, Peace, Perfect Peace; Does Jesus Care?; and We'll Never Say Goodbye, were sung by a male quartette.

   The pall bearers were six nephews, Albert, Russell and Jack Swan, Earl Lister, Albert Messer and Thomas Rutherford.   Burial took place in the family lot in Harvey Cemetery.

    He married Charlotte "Christina" Embleton, daughter of James Embleton & Isabella Little, 8 Apr 1891 in York Co., NB . Born 2 Aug 1872 in Harvey. Died 8 Sep 1933 in Tweedside. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Religion Presbyterian.

    Mrs John Rutherford

    Harvey Station, Sept 11 -- The death of Christina, beloved wife of John Rutherford, occurred at her home, Harvey Station, on Sept 8, after a long illness at the age of 61 years.   She leaves to mourn, her husband, three sons, David of McAdam, Gilbert of Saint John, Lewis at home; two daughters, Mrs Edwin Messer of Coburn and Mildred at home; also five grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs George Robison of Lethbridge, Alberta, Mrs Janie Swan and Mrs Thomas Lister of Coburn.

 

    The funeral was conducted at her late home by Rev. George E. Knight, deceased being a life long member of the Presbyterian Church.   The pallbearers were five of her nephews, Russell and Albert Swan, Oscar and Albert Messer, Cecil Rutherford and son-in-law Edwin G. Messer.


    They had the following children:
