NBC Courier (1837/07/29). This document is transcribed from a National Archives of Canada microfilm copy of Page 1 of the July 29, 1837 edition of The New Brunswick Courier (Vol V. No. 27) and recounts a debate in the legislature concerning the nature of support that might be provided to a group of newly arrived emigrants from Northumberland. With the assistance of the legislature these emigrants went on to found what would become known as Harvey Settlement.
Emigrant List for Harvey Settlement - August 1837 (PANB RS 637/26d) List of immigrants, including wives and children, with names, ages, relationships and occupations, of the Cornelius of Sunderland passengers compiled in August 1837. This is not an exhaustive ship passenger list though as it merely lists those families that initially drew lots for land in Harvey Settlement. It contains 146 names, setting aside two duplicates, more than the 137 that contemporary newspaper reports indicate having been aboard. This 'list' still excludes Henry Craigs and his wife Isabella Kay, single young man William Patterson and the Davidson family, all of whom are known to have also been on the ship. What is most striking about this party is the size of the families concerned. Few single men had been recruited and many of the families had teenage or adult children who would be seeking land of their own within a few years.
