William Cleghorn
. Son of George Cleghorn & Jane Dickson. Born 24 Jul 1807, Eckford, Roxburgh, Scotland, Scotland. Died unknown. Occupation Labourer. He Married Jessie Scott, 24 Apr 1840, Eckford, Roxburshire, Scotland.

Jessie Scott was born ca. 1816, in Roxburghshire.

At the time of the 1841 census William and his young family were living at Ormiston where he was employed as a labourer. His mother Jane (Dickson) Cleghorn and younger brother George and younger sister Agnes lived next door. His sister Jessie Wood and family lived just beyond them.

Although married in Yetholm the marriage is also listed in Ancrum, Roxburg Co., Scotland. At the time of his son George's birth on 16 Aug, 1820 George Senior was listed in the parochial registers of Eckford in Roxburghshire, Scotland (researched by Bruce Elliott, 2004): "George Cleghorn Labourer in Waterfoot and Jane Dickson his wife their Child Born the 16h of Augt 1820 and Bapt. The 24th of Sept 1820 named George."

He married Jane Dickson. Born ca 1781 (1851 census) or 1783 (1841 census), in Kelso (1851 census). Died after 1851. At the time of the 1841 census Jane was living with her children George and Agnes and was being "supported by her sons" at Ormiston. The households of her son William and daughter Jess Wood were on either side of her at Ormiston making such support feasible. By the time of the 1851 census she was living in the household of her now widowed daughter Jess Wood and was listed as a pauper although she may have been making some living as a house servant.

They had the following children:

   i.   Janet "Jessie" Cleghorn

   ii.   William Cleghorn

   iii.   Mary Cleghorn

   iv.   Robert Cleghorn

  v.  Alexander Cleghorn

  vi.   George Cleghorn

  vii.   Agnes Cleghorn

The next household on the census form for Ormiston was that of William Cleghorn and family. William was an older son of Jane Cleghorn.
