Documents Pertaining to Emigrant Ships Carrying Harvey Settlers

Harvey Settlement Index Page

A "Journal" that provides a daily account of the May 29 July 9th, 1837 voyage of Harvey¹s first settlers aboard the 'snow' rigged vessel 'Cornelius of Sunderland'. It was probably written by James Nesbitt or some other member of his family and was found in a book brought over on the ship by the Nesbitt family.

Newspaper article from the Fredericton Daily Gleaner (7 Sep 1895) published to commemorate the passing of Willie and Jennie Bell, the last surviving heads of families who emigrated aboard the Cornelius of Sunderland. Briefly discusses events that occurred on just prior to the sailing of the Cornelius of Sunderland.

A transcript of a letter (copied from an 1957 newspaper article -- Frederiction Daily Gleaner?) written to the Taylor family by one of its members, John Taylor, who recounts his 15 Apr - 20 May 1850 voyage from Greenock, United Kingdom to Boston, MA, and then to Saint John, NB and on the St. Andrews, N.B. This routing to Harvey Settlement was quite unusual as in reality Saint John, New Brunswick was the principal port of entry to settlers migrating to Massachusettes, not the other way around
