2. John Grieve . Son of William Grieve & Eleanor Turnbull. Born 16 May 1822 in Peels, Northumberland, England. Died 14 Dec 1859 in St. Louis, MO. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

 

   From Carleton Sentinel, 12 Aug 1851:

   Married Monday 4th inst., by Rev. John Allison, at residence of R. A. Hay, John Grieve, Saint Louis, U.S. and Miss Margaret J. Cunliffe, Woodstock, Carleton Co.

 

    From Carleton Sentinel, 21 Jan 1860:

    Died St. Louis, Mo., 14 Dec 1859, of consumption, John eldest son of Wm Grieve, Esq., of Harvey Settlement, York Co., age 38, formerly a resident of Woodstock, Carleton Co.

 

    John lived in Woodstock, NB, prior to going to St. Louis, where he died.   While the Carleton Sentinel gives the cause of death being consumption, folklore tells us he died of typhus.

    He married Margaret Jane Cunliffe, daughter of Nicholas Cunliffe & Margaret Gates, 4 Aug 1851 in Woodstock, NB. Born 1826 in Woodstock, NB. Christen 23 Jul 1826 in Anglican Church, Woodstock, NB. Died 19 Nov 1867. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

 

    Not known where she died.

William Grieve wo died late late 1874 or early 1875 is probably buried here as well.

3. Patrick Turnbull Grieve . Son of William Grieve & Eleanor Turnbull. Born 15 Feb 1824 in Peels, Northumberland, England. Died 25 Nov 1860 in Harvey Settlement. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. See image of grave marker above. Occupation Farmer. Religion Presbyterian.

 

    Marriages 1851-55, #F15552, p. 37:    Patrick Turnbull Grieve to Mary Piercy on July 1, 1851, by John M. Brooke, witnesses William Grieve Jr., and Alice Bell Grieve.

    He married Mary Piercy, daughter of George Piercy & Ann Winter, 1 Jul 1851 in St. Paul's Church, Fredericton, By Rev. Dr. John M. Brooke. Born 8 May 1831 in Wark Common, Northumberland, England. Died 12 Aug 1916 in Harvey Station, NB. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Religion Presbyterian.

 

    Patrick and Mary's youngest child was born three months after Patrick died, leaving Mary to raise seven young children   on her own.

 

    They had the following children:

    From New Brunswick Courier, 8 Jan 1853:   "Married 30th ult., by Rev. John M. Brooke, William Grieve and Miss Rachel Lawrence, both of Kingsclear, York Co."


    PANB, #F15552, p. 141:   William Grieve Jr. to Rachael Lawrence both of Kingsclear on Dec 30, 1852, by John M. Brooke, witnesses George Grieve and Jane W. Haining.

     He married Rachel Lawrence, daughter of Isaac Lawrence & Hannah Burtt, 30 Dec 1852 in St. Paul's Church, Fredericton By Rev. Dr. John M. Brooke. Born 26 Aug 1832 in Kingsclear Parish, NB. Died After 1879.

 

    When William died, Rachel was left with three young sons, the older two died within a short time of their father, and youngest son John was 11 years old in the 1871 Census for the Parish of Kingsclear.

 

    They had the following children:
