47. James Moffit "Jim" Swan . Son of John "Jack" Swan & Margaret M. Moffitt. Born 24 Apr 1857 in Tweedside. Died 2 Jun 1940 in Lewiston, Maine. Buried in Riverside Cemetery, South Paris, Maine. Occupation Swan Construction Co. Religion Baptist.

    From newspaper obituary - undated (1940):

    DIED -- In Lewiston, June 2, James M. Swan, aged 81.   Funeral services will be attended at the funeral home of Teague & Stevens, Wednesday at two pm.   Interment at Riverside cemetery at South Paris, Me.

    Well Known Contractor, 81, Dies After Several Years of Ill Health

    James M. Swan, well-known retired contractor, died Sunday night at his home, 547 Main street, Lewiston, after several years of failing health.   Mr Swan was born April 24, 1859, at Tweedside, N.B., and came to Lewiston before he was 20 years old.   He had made his home here ever since.   He was the son of Margaret and John Swan.

    He was senior member and president of Swan Construction Co. and had built 80 dams and several power plants.   He was a member of Golden Rule lodge, Odd Fellows, and of the Knights of Pythias for many years.   He was also a member of the Ancient York lodge of Masons, Lisbon Falls.   He was affiliated with the Baptist church.

    Mrs Swan, the former Dora Bishop of Rumford, whom he married 46 years ago, died in 1936.   Another son, William died several years ago.

    Mr Swan is survived by a daughter, Mrs Stacey Robbins, with whom he made his home; an adopted son, Harold, of Panama; two grandchildren, Mrs Dorothy Samson, Lisbon, and James Swan, California; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    He first married Margaret McFerson.

    They had the following children:

    He second married Dora Isabel Bishop, Approx 1894 in Maine. Born in Rumford, Maine. Died 1936.

    Dora was possibly married first to a Mr. Farrar.

48. Alexander Swan . Son of John "Jack" Swan & Margaret M. Moffitt. Born Nov 1859 in Tweedside. Died 11 Dec 1859 in Tweedside. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

    Died at age 1 month.

49. Jannette Gladstone "Jennie" Swan . Daughter of John "Jack" Swan & Margaret M. Moffitt. Born 24 Oct 1860 in Tweedside. Died 5 May 1933. Buried in Calais, Maine.

    Witnesses to marriage were R. S. Larner and Lizzie J. Swan.

    She married Edward Larner, son of John Larner & Elspeth Nesbitt, 4 Apr 1883 in Harvey Sta., NB By Robert Nairn, Presbyterian . Born 19 Aug 1854 in Robbinston, Me. Died 7 Apr 1892 in Calais, Me. Buried in Calais, Me.

    Two birth dates for Edward, not sure which is correct:   19 Apr 1854 and 19 Aug 1854.    Details of this family starting on page 183 of "The Swan Family (early 1800's - 1980)" by Jocelean Swan Hall and Margaret Swan Crozier.

    Died at age 17 years.
