60. Annie Piercy Lister . Daughter of Edward Irving Lister & Mary Ann Piercy. Born 9 Mar 1888 in Harvey. Died 11 Dec 1939 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

    Many At Funeral

    People From Many Places Pay Last Respects to Mrs Ford Messer.

    Harvey Station, Dec 13 -- The death of Mrs Ford Messer which occurred at her home on Monday evening will be learned of with deep regret by a large circle of friends.   Though in poor health for a number of years, her death after a short illness caused a shock throughout the community.

    Mrs Messer, before her marriage on July 5th, 1910, was Miss Annie Lister of Coburn, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary A. Lister.   As long as her health permitted she was active in all community affairs and was known for her kind hospitality.   She was a member of the United Church.

    Mrs Messer is survived by her husband, one son Travis, at home, four sisters, Mrs Ebenezer Little of Coburn, Mrs John Embleton, York Mills, Mrs Kenneth Embleton, Harvey, and Mrs Raymond Lord of Ipswich, Mass., and four brothers, Nicholas Lister of Westfield, NB, John, Thomas and Matthew Lister of Harvey.

    The funeral was held at her home this afternoon at two o'clock and was very largely attended..........

    Interment took place in the family lot in Harvey Cemetery by the side of a little daughter, Marion, who passed away several years ago.

    She married John Rutherford "Ford" Messer, son of William Messer & Sarah Elizabeth "Sadie" Rutherford, 5 Jul 1911 in Harvey, York Co., NB . Born 10 Dec 1889 in Tweedside . Died 27 May 1949 in Harvey Station . Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

    Ford Messer Died Suddenly At Home In Harvey Station

    Member of Legislature For Some Years--County Councillor, Well Known.

    The death occurred last night at the home in Harvey Station of Ford Messer, one of the best known men in York County.   He had recently returned from Boston where he had undergone treatment.   His death was due to a sudden heart attack.

    Ford Messer was born at Tweedside on Dec 10th 1890, a son of the late William and Sarah (Rutherford) Messer and spent his early life there.   He married Annie Lister, daughter of the late Edward and Mary Ann (Piercy) Lister, of Coburn, and one son was born.

    Some years later Mr Messer moved to Harvey Station and opened a meat business which he carried on for years.   In 1929 he started the importation of horses from the west and sold them at Harvey and at stables in Fredericton.   He was elected to the New Brunswick Legislature in 1939 and was there until 1944.   He was a member of the York Municipal Council for the past 12 years, being councillor at the time of his death.   He was a member of Hiram Lodge, No. 6 F & A M, Fredericton and of Fredericton Society of Saint Andrews.   He was a man of genial disposition, kind and considerate of others and held the respect of his associates in the Legislature, County Council and in business circles.

    Eight years ago he married Mrs William McElroy, of Grafton.   For a number of years he and Mrs Messer spent the winters in Florida and had just recently returned from Boston.   Surviving are his wife, a son, Travis; two sisters, Mrs Bessie Swan, Tweedside, and Mrs Howard Bliss, Boston; two brothers, Albert Messer, of Harvey, and Oscar Messer, St. Stephen; and a half-sister, Mrs Roy Swan, McAdam.

    The funeral takes place on Monday afternoon with service in the United Church at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. Mr Aitken and interment made in Harvey.
