42. William "Allen" Speedy . Son of William A. Speedy & Mary Ann Moffitt. Born 9 Feb 1877 in Harvey. Died 20 Jan 1935. Buried in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.

 

    He married Vera E. Love, daughter of Hugh Love, 1903. Born Feb 1883 in St. Stephen. Died 12 Jan 1950 in Fort Edward, N.Y. Buried in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.

 

   From Obituary -- Mrs V. E. Speedy, Passes in Fort Edward

 

   Mrs Vera E. Speedy passed away at the home of her son, Vernard, in Fort Edward, N.Y. on Jan 12.   Mrs Speedy suffered an ill turn two weeks before Christmas at her own home and was moved to the home of her son, where she was cared for by her daughter-in-law for five weeks.   She was born in St. Stephen, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Hugh Love, and would have been 68 years had she lived until February.   She was married in 1903 to W. A. Speedy of Harvey and lived in Rumford, Maine for a number of years.   Since then she has resided in Fort Edward, New York.

 

   Her remains, accompanied by her two sons, were brought to St. Stephen on Monday of last week.   Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home of her sister, Mrs William Middlemiss with Rev. B. D. Earle officiating.   "The Old Rugged Cross" was sung by Mrs Raymond Russell.   The many beautiful flowers showed the esteem in which she was held.

 

   Predeceased by her husband 15 years ago, she is survived by two sons, Burdette, the oldest, now living in Savannah, Georgia, and Vernard of Fort Edward, N.Y.; three sisters, Mrs William Middlemiss, of St. Sephen; Mrs Milton Stewart of Baring, Me., and Mrs William Spires of Freeport, Me.; four brothers, Foster, Harley and Hugh of St. Stephen, and Percy of Philadelphia, and her step-mother, Mrs Jennie Love of St. Stephen.

 

   The pallbearers were Hugh B. Pike, Manzer Moffitt, William Moffitt, Edwin Carter, Hazen Linton and Roy Speedy.   Interment was made in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.

 

    They had the following children:

43. George Albert Speedy . Son of William A. Speedy & Mary Ann Moffitt. Born 18 Nov 1878 in Harvey. Died 9 Dec 1953 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

 

    From newspaper obituary - 1953:

    George A. Speedy Dies in Harvey

    Harvey Station -- This community was saddened in the passing of George A. Speedy on Wednesday morning, Dec. 9.

    The son of the late William and Mary A. Speedy, he was 75 years of age.   He had been ill for a year and bore his sickness with great fortitude.   Mr Speedy was a member of the United Church, a member of the board of stewards and trustees, and a faithful member of the choir, where he sang for many years.

 

    He is survived by his wife and son, W. D. Speedy, of Harvey; one granddaughter, Ferne Jo Ann Speedy of McAdam; four sisters, Mrs George Lister, McAdam; Mrs Mary Simms, Boston; Mrs Eva Urquhart, Bangor, and Mrs Myrtle Locke, Flint, Mich.   He was predeceased by a daughter, Hazel Audrey, in 1915, and a son, George D. Speedy, died Sept 30, 1947, aged 27 years.

 

    The funeral was largely attended, Rev. J. L. Rose officiating.   Prayers were said at the home followed by service in St. Andrew's Church.   The choir rendered the hymns, Rock of Ages, What a Friend We Have In Jesus, and Abide With Me.   Many friends and relatives attended from McAdam, St. Stephen, and Bangor, Oakfield and Presque Isle, Me.

 

    Mr Speedy was a strong supporter for the moral good of the community, a good neighbor and friend to all.

     The bearers were cousins of Mr Speedy; George Messer, George Moffitt, Russell Moffitt, Roy Moffitt, Manzer Moffitt and Thomas Rutherford.   Interment was in Harvey Cemetery.

 

    He married Charlotte "Lovisa" Grieve, daughter of William Grieve & Anne "Annie" Pass, 8 Jun 1904 in Harvey Presbyterian Church, York Co.. Born 14 Apr 1885 in Harvey. Died 7 Jan 1971 in Harvey Community Hospital. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

 

    Died 7 Jan 1971, age 85 yr 8 mo 24 days, at Harvey Community Hospital.

 

    They had the following children:

44. Robert "Nelson" Speedy . Son of William A. Speedy & Mary Ann Moffitt. Born 9 Aug 1881 in Harvey. Died 10 Aug 1953 in McAdam. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

 

    Went to McAdam to live in 1904 to work for the CPR as a boilermaker.   Later transferred to fireman and completed his 49 years of service as a locomotive engineer.   He was a member of No. 479 Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, Eastern Division.   Member of St. Paul's United Church, McAdam.

 

    He married Carrie Hill. Born 1884 in Calais, Maine. Died 20 Jan 1959 in McAdam. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

 

    They had the following children:
