74. Thomas Speedy Rutherford . Son of James Rutherford & Sarah Frances Speedy. Born 19 Jun 1889 in Tweedside. Died 26 Nov 1973 in MacLean Memorial Hospital, McAdam. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer.

    Thomas S. Rutherford

    Funeral service for Thomas Rutherford was held at his home with Rev. S. R. Jackson officiating.

 

    Born in Tweedside, he was the son of the late James and Sarah (Speedy) Rutherford.   He is survived by one daughter, Mrs Henry James (Pauline) and one son Raymond at home, 11 grandchildren and one brother Vincent Rutherford, Saint John.

 

    Pallbearers were Glendon and Gale Rutherford, Claude and Elwood Swan and Milford and Cecil Coburn.   Interment was in the Harvey Cemetery.

 

    He married Margaret Isabel Patterson, daughter of James "Wesley" Patterson & Isabelle "Belle" Nesbitt, 13 Oct 1920 in York Co., NB . Born 7 Nov 1899 in Harvey. Died 28 Apr 1949. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

    Died at Tweedside

    Mrs Thomas Rutherford, well known Resident of Community had been ill 1 month.

    Tweedside, May 11 -- Mrs Thomas Rutherford, a well known resident of this place, passed away at her home Apr 28, following an illness of one month.

 

    Mrs Rutherford, the former Margaret Patterson, was born in Harvey Station 49 years ago, a daughter of Mrs Isabelle and the late Wesley Patterson.   She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Miss Pauline Rutherford; one son Raymond Rutherford, at home, her mother, Mrs Patterson and four sisters, Mrs Gilbert Little, Brownville Junction, Mrs James Johnston, Harvey Station, Mrs Allan Bartlett, York Mills and Mrs Lewis Swan of Tweedside.   An only borther, Orman Patterson died on Mar 13 of this year.

 

    Many friends attended the funeral service at her home on Apr 30, conducted by Rev. W. E. Aitken, minister of the United Church of Harvey, Mrs Rutherford having been a member of that congregation.   Several members of the choir were present and sang the Twenty-third Psalm, Jesus Lover of My Soul and The Sands of time Are Sinking, with Mrs Edgar Coburn as organist.

    Pallbearers were Vincent Rutherford, Claude Swan, Allan Bartlett, James Johnston, Lewis Swan and Lewis Rutherford.   The floral tributes were many and beautiful.

 

    Interment was made in Harvey Cemetery.   Those attending the funeral from outside points were Mr and Mrs G. Little, Brownville Junction, Me., Mr and Mrs Norman Rutherford, Lawrence, Mass., Mr and Mrs Vincent Rutherford and family, Saint John and Mr and Mrs Leonard Thompson of Blacks Harbour.

 

    From PANB, RS 141C5, Deaths 1920-1951:   Margaret's death date was given as 27 Apr 1949.

75. Norman James Rutherford . Son of James Rutherford & Sarah Frances Speedy. Born 17 Aug 1891 in Tweedside . Died 5 Jun 1967.

 

    Norman was discharged from the Canadian expeditionary Force on May 26, 1919, at age of 27 years.   He married Bertha on June 18, 1923 and became a naturalized citizen of USA on March 21, 1927.

 

    Norman and Bertha lived in Lawrence, Mass., and had two sons:   Donald James Rutherford and William Norman Rutherford.

 

    He married Bertha Douglas, 18 Jun 1923. Born 19 Apr 1891. Died 2 Feb 1970.

 

    They had the following children:

76. Margaret Isabelle "Belle" Rutherford . Daughter of James Rutherford & Sarah Frances Speedy. Born 4 Jan 1895 in Tweedside . Died 23 Dec 1962 in Lancaster, NB. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Religion Presbyterian.

    Mrs I. Coburn Dies In City

    The death of Mrs M. Isabell (Bell) Coburn occurred in Lancaster Sunday, following a period of failing health.

    Born in Tweedside, York County, she was a daughter of the late James and Sarah (Speedy) Rutherford and a widow of Robert Coburn.   She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Harvey, and a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the church.   A sister, Mrs Wilbert A. Swan died Thursday.

 

    Surviving are three sons, Milford J. and Cecil R., Harvey Station, and Gordon M., Saint John; one daughter, Mrs George Henry, Magaguadavic, York County; 12 grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas, Tweedside; Norman, Lawrence, Mass.; Cecil, Vancouver, BC, and Vincent Rutherford, Martinon; several nieces and nephews.

 

    The body is resting at Calvin Funeral Home, Lancaster, until this morning, when it will be taken to Harvey.   There it will rest at the residence of her son Milford Coburn.   Prayers at the residence at 2 p.m.   Wednesday will be followed by funeral service in Knox Presbyterian Church at 2:30.   Interment will be in Harvey Cemetery.

 

    She married Robert Coburn, son of James "Jim" Coburn & Elizabeth H. "Bessie" Swan, 21 Aug 1918 in York Co., NB . Born 7 Aug 1883 in Harvey Sta. Died 25 Feb 1955. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer. Religion Presbyterian.

    They had the following children:
