33. Mary Simpson Rutherford. Daughter of John Rutherford & Elizabeth "Bessie" Wightman. Born 26 Oct 1855 in Harvey. Died 26 Jul 1928. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

    From The Daily Telegraph, 7 Jul 1873:   "Married at residence of the bride's father, by Rev. Samuel Johnson, 5th ult., John Swan and Mary Rutherford, eldest daughter of John Rutherford, Esq., all of Manners Sutton"   (Also in Colonial Farmer 14 Jul 1873, and NB Reporter 16 Jul 1873.)

    Witnesses to marriage were James Swan and Isabella Harvey.

    She married John "Jack" Swan, son of James Swan & Jane Moody, 5 Jul 1873 in Harvey Station,York Co., NB By Rev. Samuel Johnson . Born 29 Dec 1844 in Manners Sutton, York Co, NB. Christen 10 Feb 1845 in Harvey By Rev. Daniel McCurdy . Died 22 May 1906 in Harvey Sta. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer. Religion Presbyterian.

    Jack was known as "Black Jack" to distinguish him from other Jack Swans of that time.   Jack and his wife Mary Rutherford lived on the original James Swan farm, (later known as the Jack and Phyllis Swan farm).

    Jack died 22 May 1906, age 61 years 4 months -- paralysis.

    They had the following children:

Based on a mtDNA test result of direct maternal descendat Ellis Craig the haplogroup designation and HVR1 mutations of Mary Davison are provided below.
Since mtDNA is passed directly from mothers to their children with virtually no changes the test values obtained are generally applicable to all direct maternal descendants including granddaughter Mary Simpson Rutherford.
