4. John Wightman. Son of John Wightman & Mary Davison. Born 21 May, 1829, Milfield, England. Died 23 Aug 1891 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer. Religion Presbyterian.

p. 70 WEIGHTMAN. 24 May 1829 John son of John Weightman, Hind, Milfield, & his wife Mary, daughter of Mathew Davidson, was born 21 May 1829.

 

    PANB #F15552, p. 296:   "John Wightman to Ann Isabel Messer on Feb 9, 1858, by Samuel Johnson, witnesses Thomas Brown and Ralph Briggs."

 

    From Centennial Corner, Daily Gleaner 1 Feb 1991 (from   Daily Gleaner, 1 Feb 1891:

    "John Wightman, of Manners Sutton, is nearing death from a peculiar disease.   Some time ago he was treated for cancer, a very successful operation being performed, and it was thought at the time that all danger from this terrible disease was past.   But some of the cancer had been left, and caused a rupture of one of the facial arteries a few days since.   He bled almost three quarts of blood.   It is apparent that the next drainage will cause death, and his friends are dreading the time."

    Gravestone in Harvey Settlement Cemetery:   In memory of John Wightman died Aug 23, 1891 aged 62 yrs; his wife Annie died Aug 31, 1891 aged 52 yrs.   Blessed with death who died in the Lord; (right side) Their daughter Margaret J. died June 10, 1901 aged 27 yrs; also Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Willett, died Oct 29, 1900 aged 24 years, also their infant son Harold.   Asleep in Jesus.

 

    He married Ann Isabel "Annie" Messer, daughter of William Messer & Alice (Or Alison) Brown, 9 Feb 1858 in Harvey Settlement, York Co. . Born 1839 in Harvey. Christen 6 Mar 1840 in Harvey Settlement By Rev. Daniel McCurdy . Died 31 Aug 1891 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Religion Presbyterian.
