144. William "Irving" Thomas. Son of Richard Thomas & Ellen Little. Born 4 Nov 1894 in Thomaston Corner. Died 3 Apr 1920 in Greenville, Maine. Buried in St Stephen Rural Cemetery. Occupation Brakeman With CPR.

 

    From newspaper obituary (1920);

    W. Irving Thomas

    The death of William Irving Thomas occurred in the hospital at Greenville, Maine, on April 3rd.  He was a son of Richard Thomas of St. Stephen and employed as brakeman on the C.P.R. when the sad accident took place resulting in his death.  He was twenty five years of age, a young man esteemed by all who knew him and one who was always agreeable and willing to do his part.  He was a close adherent of the Presbyterian church and whenever possible always attended service.  He leaves to mourn their irreparable loss his father and mother, five sisters and four brothers, all of whom were able to attend the funeral except one sister teaching in Saskatchewan.

    The funeral was held at his home on Wednesday afternoon of last week where his many friends gathered to pay the last tribute of respect and was the most largely attended held here for some time.

    The service was conducted by Rev W. W. Malcolm, music being rendered by the choir of the Presbyterian church.  The flowers were beautiful and included a broken circle from the family.

    He was laid to rest by four of his young friends, Fred Thomas, Jack Waterson, Arthur Finkill and Victor Poole, in the family lot in the St. Stephen Rural cemetery.
