28. Jane "Jeanie" Little. Daughter of John Little & Janet Heughan (link to Heughan family pages). Born 1823 in Scotland. Died 16 Nov 1895 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

    Died at age 72 years.

She married John McGowan, 24 Nov 1858 in Harvey Presbyterian Church By Rev. Samuel Johnson . Born 1831. Died 30 Sep 1889 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer.

The McGowan family is not listed in the 1851 Census for the Parish of Kingsclear but they are in the 1861 Census for Manners Sutton, as it was then called.  It would appear that John, his mother Mary and perhaps her sister-in-law arrived in Harvey sometime after 1851 and prior to John's marriage to Jane Little in November 1858.  John was received into the Presbyterian Church in Harvey on 6 June 1857.

According to the church records, Mary McGowan died in December 1881 at the age of 82 years.  There is a Janet McGowan buried in Harvey Cemetery, died 27 June 1870 at the age of 80 years.

John and his wife Jane lived on a farm in Tweedside.  According to the 1861 Census, they farmed 22 acres of improved land, and 48 acres unimproved; cash value of farm was 125 pounds, and value of implements and machinery, one poound.  They had two horses, 3 other neat cattle, 7 sheep, 2 swine, and slaughtered 200 lb. pork.  Produced 40 lb. butter, 16 lb. wool, 2 tons hay, 200 bu. oats, 18 bu. buckwheat, 38 bu. timothy and 100 bu. potatoes.

PANB #F15552, p. 334:  John McGowan to Jane Little on Nov. 24, 1858, witnesses Isabella Little and Edward Lister.
