79. William McGowan. Son of John McGowan & Jane "Jeanie" Little. Born 11 Sep 1859 in Tweedside. Christen 30 Oct 1859 in Harvey Presbyterian Church. Died 15 Jan 1941 in Tweedside. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer.

 

    From newspaper obituary - 1941:

    Died At Harvey

    Harvey, Jan 18 -- William McGowan, a life-long resident of Tweedside, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 81 years, following a short illness of influenza and complications.

    He was the last member of the McGowan family, his only sister, Mrs John Craig having predeceased him on March 29th of last year.  Surviving him are his wife, formerly Miss Bertha McAllen of Dumbarton, NB, and one grandson, Ronald Saunders.

    The funeral service was held on Friday afternoon, Jan 17th at two o'clock in Knox Presbyterian Church.  Mrs Linda Little, Ralph Coburn and Andrew McCullough sang I Want To Go There, God Be With You Till We Meet Again, and Abide With Me.  Rev. Allison McLean who conducted the service spoke of the outstanding honesty of the deceased.

    The pallbearers were Kay Craig and William Craig, John Black, Ward Logan, Jas. R. Swan and Edison Messer.

 

    He married Bertha Jane McAllen. Born 23 Jul 1869. Died 24 Mar 1955.

 

    Bertha was a daughter of Henry McAllen and Elizabeth.  Bertha had three children prior to marrying Bill:  Mary Agnes, Winnie and Bernard.

    Bill and Bertha lived on his parents farm in Tweedside, and had two children.

 

    They had the following children:

254 ii. Jane Elizabeth "Jennie" McGowan
