73. Alexander William Little. Son of Robert Little & Mary Murray. Born 4 Apr 1854 in Cayuga, Ont. Died 1932 in Old Bay Road, St. Stephen. Buried in Brockway Union Cemetery. Occupation Farmer.
"Big Alex", as he was known (to distinguish him from Alexander Little who lived at York Mills), was born in Ontario, and came to Harvey as a young man. He and Agnes first lived on the farm presently known as the Karl Byers farm, in Little Settlement. He had a big windmill on top of the hill. He was well known in the surrounding areas for the merry-go-round which he built. He later moved to Brockway, where he stored the merry-go-round in an old covered bridge which was not in use. From Brockway he moved to St. Stephen. He was a salesman for stoves.
From newspaper obituary - 1932:
Alex Little Passes Away
Alex W. Little Dies At Home On Old Bay Road
Death claimed one of the best known men in Charlotte County this morning when Alex W. Little passed away at his home on the Old Bay Road, where he had lived 25 years, coming from Harvey in 1907.
Born in Ontario 78 years ago, he moved to New Brunswick when a young man. He was a successful farmer, both at Harvey and at his present home. He was well and favourably known throughout the maritimes, having been a commercial traveller for a number of years.
Mr Little had been in poor health for about a year, having met with an accident about 18 months ago, when he fell from a team at Brockway. He never fully recovered, but had been confined to his house only about three months.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters: Bruce, Elmer and Verna at home; Irvine, Brockway, and Mrs B. L. Dunphy, Mouth of Keswick. Another son, James died about 19 months ago. There are also six grandchildren. Interment will be at Brockway.
He married Agnes Little, daughter of William Little & Janet "Jennie" Lister (link to Lister family pages). Born 11 Sep 1857 in Harvey Settlement. Christen 9 Dec 1857 in Harvey Presbyterian Church. Died 17 Mar 1942 in St. Stephen, NB. Buried in Brockway Union Cemetery.
Agnes and Alex had six children: James, Irving, Elmer, Verna, Etta and Bruce.
From The Saint Croix Courier, 20 Jul 1933: Lightning damage here. The home of Mrs A. W. Little on the Old Bay Road, a few miles out of St. Stephen, was struck by lightning during the brief storm which swept down the St. Croix valley about 6 o'clock Tuesday evening. The bolt split the chimney and set fire to a matress in one of the bedrooms, but fortunately no one was injured.
From the Saint Croix Courier, 19 Mar 1942: Deaths -- LITTLE: At Old Bay Road, March 17, Mrs Agnes Little, aged 84 years.
They had the following children:
133 i. James Hughan Little
134 ii. William "Irving" Little
135 iii. Elmer Little
136 iv. Verna J. Little
137 v. Etta Little
